With an extensive clinical background as a Dental Therapist and Dental Hygienist, Naomi Wilson founded Jawesome Smiles and The Smile Therapist to provide personalised, preventative and professional dental care through mobile and online services.
Jawesome Smiles was created with a simple vision: to make dental care a positive experience for every child. Our child-centred approach focuses on fun, gentle and supportive preventative care, with a particular interest in supporting autistic and neurodivergent children, as well as those who experience anxiety, nervousness, sensory sensitivities or other additional needs. We aim to build trust, nurture confidence and help children develop healthy habits for life. The Smile Therapist offers professional mobile teeth whitening services, with a commitment to safe, evidence-based practice and personalised care that prioritises both oral health and whitening results. |

What is a Dental Therapist and a Dental Hygienist?
A Dental Therapist is a qualified and registered dental health care professional who provides assessments, examinations, diagnosis, education, prevention & treatment of dental diseases in children such as cleaning, fillings and extraction of teeth as needed.
A Dental Hygienist is a qualified and registered dental health care professional who provides assessments, examinations, diagnosis, education, prevention & treatment of periodontal (gum) disease in all age groups, such as cleaning, polishing and teeth whitening.
Any treatment beyond the scope of practice is referred to the appropriate dental health care professional.

Naomi graduated with a Diploma in Dental Therapy from the Westmead College of Dental Therapy and with a Bachelor of Oral Health from The University of Newcastle.

Why the shark mascot?
People often ask why a shark was chosen as the face of Jawesome Smiles!
The simple answer is... Naomi absolutely loves sharks! They've been her favourite animal for as long as she can remember. Although they sometimes get a bad reputation, sharks are fascinating, beautiful, intelligent, often misunderstood and play an incredibly important role in keeping our oceans healthy.
There's also a fun dental connection! Sharks are famous for having lots of teeth and can continually replace them throughout their lives—making them the perfect mascot for a dental service.
There's another special reason behind the shark too. When Naomi first started her career, many of the children and parents she cared for couldn't quite remember her name. Instead, they affectionately referred to her as "The Shark Lady" because of her passion for sharks and the way she would talk about them to make learning about teeth fun. The nickname stuck, and years later it inspired the creation of Jawesome Smiles.
Today, the shark helps turn oral health education and dental visits into fun, positive adventures, reminding children that looking after their teeth can be exciting, empowering and... Jawesome!
